CAROBON

The Problem : Tunisia’s Environmental and Corporate Challenges

Tunisia’s 2030 Climate Goals: Tunisia is currently locked in a race against time, but two critical obstacles are holding us back from reaching our 2030 climate targets.

The Dying Earth: Desertification is no longer a distant threat—it is our current reality. With 80% of our land already lost, we are witnessing a systematic collapse of soil health. This isn't just "dry land"—it’s lost biodiversity, degraded food security, and the displacement of our rural communities. For a nation built on agriculture, this is an existential crisis for both our environment and our economy.

The Silent Sector: While the land fades, our greatest potential ally remains on the sidelines. Currently, a staggering 82% of Tunisia’s private sector has yet to adopt an environmental CSR strategy. There is a massive "action gap" where companies have expressed interest in contributing to a greener future, yet many struggle to find practical, scalable ways to turn their commitments into action.

This disconnect represents a historic opportunity. By bridging the gap between corporate resources and environmental needs, we can turn the tide on desertification and build a resilient, green economy, and this is where CAROBON comes into play.

The Solution : CAROBON — Reclaiming the Land through Strategic Restoration

CAROBON is the bridge to this gap, by providing a practical, high-impact pathway for companies to turn their sustainability commitments into a physical defense against desertification. At the heart of our approach is the carob tree, a resilient, versatile and drought-defying species engineered by nature to thrive where other life fails. They act as a natural anchor for Tunisia’s arid zones, requiring minimal water while aggressively regenerating exhausted soil. By enriching the earth and capturing carbon, these groves serve as a permanent barrier against the advancing desert, stabilizing the land for generations to come.

The impact of CAROBON extends from the soil to the community: The project also establishes sustainable and profitable local value chains, by creating direct employment and offering opportunities for rural communities to generate income and preserve traditional agricultural knowledge.

This is a self-sustaining model where ecological health and economic survival are inseparable. CAROBON provides the private sector with a clear path to invest in a future where the land is no longer in retreat, but in recovery.

The Impact: A Greener Future for Tunisia

CAROBON is about more than just planting trees, more than a restoration project. It’s about creating lasting change. Our impact is measured by the stability we return to the land and the value we build within its communities:

  • Combating desertification: By planting carob groves in arid zones, halting soil degradation and reclaiming territory that was once considered lost.
  • Contributing to carbon capture: Our reforestation efforts serve to make a measurable contribution to Tunisia’s 2030 climate mandates, turning the land into a natural carbon sink to reduce our national carbon footprint.
  • Creating sustainable local value chains: By turning the Carob harvest into a consistent long-term source of income for rural families.
  • Modernizing Heritage: By blending traditional agricultural knowledge with modern sustainable practices, we are revitalizing local farming practices and empowering rural workers.

Our long-term vision extends beyond the field. We aim to develop a range of high-value, carob-based products designed for global markets. This transition from raw agriculture to processed industrial goods will unlock new tiers of economic growth, proving that environmental restoration is the most profitable investment Tunisia can make.

Recognition and Growth : Growing Together for a Sustainable Future

Since the launch of CAROBON, we have already established 10+ strategic partnerships with key stakeholders, including ATPSM (Association Tunisienne pour la Promotion de la Santé Mentale) and Novo Nordisk, marking a significant step toward scaling the project and allowing us to move from theory to large-scale action.

Together, we’ve already planted over 200 carob trees. This is just the first phase of a multi-year deployment plan to expand our green barrier further in the coming years.

Our early adopters are helping lead the charge, demonstrating that CSR is not just a moral obligation, but a transformative opportunity for Tunisian companies and a core business advantage. They are shifting the Tunisian private sector away from passive interest and toward active, measurable participation in climate defense.

Our Vision : Transforming Tunisia’s Environmental and Corporate Landscape

At CAROBON, we believe in the power of collaboration between businesses and local communities to address Tunisia’s most pressing environmental challenges. Our mission is to move beyond temporary fixes and establish a permanent system where corporate investment directly fuels environmental restoration. We aren't just planting trees; we are building a barrier against the desert and a bridge for rural survival.

In the long term, CAROBON aims to become a standard for integrating sustainability into business practices, not only in Tunisia but across the region. We envision a future where companies are fully engaged in environmental stewardship, where rural communities are no longer displaced by the climate, and where desertification is actively pushed back by scalable, biological solutions.
